120v Power Inlet Receptacle Parts & Install

A power inlet is great for reducing the strain on the trailer’s electrical system. I use it to power a space heater when camping in cool temps. You could also use it to power other high wattage items like a hair dryer, crock pot, air fryer, etc.


NOTE: If you don’t have an interior wall to install an electrical box, you can use an inlet like this. They are good for slide and cabinets on exterior walls.

Supplies:

(Items may also be found at your local hardware store)

2″ hole saw

1-3/4″ hole saw

14/2 wire

Electrical box – 20 cu. in.

15 amp GFCI outlet

Step 1:

Drill the hole (run the drill backwards to make a clean cut)


Step 2:

  • Wire the romex to the inlet receptacle.
  • Install the receptacle into the hole.

Step 3:

  • Cut a hole in an interior wall.
  • Install the “old work” electrical box.
  • Run the romex to the electrical box.
  • Wire the GFCI outlet.

Step 4:

  • Plug in an electrical cord to the new power inlet.
  • Verify green GFCI light is on.
