Benefits of lithium over lead acid
– weigh less (often 1/3).
– can safely be inside the trailer (no off-gassing).
– can be discharged to 10% compared to 50%.
– more charge cycles over the life of the battery.
Note: To protect the trailer wiring, you’ll want to install a fuse (Class T is best) on the positive side of the battery.
100Ah
NOTE: battery can be damaged when charged in freezing temps.
100Ah w/ Built-in Heater
Allows you to charge the battery in freezing temps.
Note: A battery monitor (smart shunt) will not recognize any power used for the battery’s internal heater.
200+Ah
Note: If you want to use an inverter rated at 2,000 watts or more, get a battery with a BMS of 200A. Might be listed as their “Plus” model. Some 200Ah batteries have a 100A BMS.
Converters (120VAC to 12DVC) for Lithium Batteries
Note:
– If your trailer has a factory solar package, you can keep the factory converter and let the solar top off the battery.
– 2022 and newer trailers will most likely have a lithium compatible converter. WFCO 8955-AD is a common model.
